This chapter focuses on the ‘worried well,’ who constitute a large part of medical practice; it discusses how to understand them and how to ethically approach them. The second part deals with reassurance of the “symptomatic normal” patients and the real problem of over investigation leading to ‘tar-baby syndrome’. Important do’s and don’ts are discussed in handling the worried well in a manner that is safe for the patient as well as the doctor. The end of chapter exercises are designed to provide effective teaching-learning experiences of the skills highlighted in the chapter.
