This chapter starts with the benefits of effective questioning and then discusses the basics of asking questions in 3-dimensions (open-closed, direct-indirect and leading-non-leading) for easy understanding the complexities involved, specially highlighting the four ways of indirect questioning and the importance of leading questions in some specific clinical settings. The next segment explains the art of effective questioning with clinical examples. The final segment discusses advanced questioning skills with suitable clinical examples. The finer points have been adopted from management sciences and adapted for clinical interviews. The end of chapter exercises are designed to provide effective teaching-learning experiences of the various skills highlighted in the chapter.
