Abstract

Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by Gonococcus (Neisseria gonorrhea) which is a gram-negative Diplococcus occurs in pairs. Incubation period: Usually 2 to 5 days. Gonorrhea is a disease of susceptible mucous membranes. Clinical manifestations: 1. Urethritis: Thick creamy greenish yellow discharge accompanied by dysuria. 2. Proctitis. 3. Oral infections: Patients C/O acute or chronic sore throat. 4. Urethral stricture: Difficulty in passing urine. 5. Prostatitis: Pain in defaecation and urination. In female adults: Asymptomatic infections—majority of women with gonorrhea are asymptomatic.
