Paraphimosis occur when a tight foreskin is retracted and then not restored to its normal position. The retracted prepuce forms a constricting band proximal to which the LANs swells and becomes oedematous. Common causes of paraphimosis are the common cause of balanoposthitis, candidiasis. Anaerobic organisms, amoebiasis. Ulcerative lesions (chancroid, herpes simplex). Traumatic—physical, chemical. Management: 1. Any subpreputial discharge to be Gram stained and examined under microscope. 2. Within 24 hour of paraphimosis, if patient comes: (a) Reduction should be attempted. (b) If still irreducible, the constriction band should be cut on the dorsal surface. (c) Coexistent infections should be appropriately treated. (d) If still irreducible, the constriction band should be cut on the (e) Coexistent infections should be appropriately treated. (f) Circumcision may be considered at later stage.
