The development of a successful vaccine for leprosy is a possibility of near future which may change the epidemiological and clinical profile in leprosy. The introduction of nine branded armadello, an animal model in leprosy research, has brought forward a new hope for developing an effective leprosy vaccine. Previously BCG was used for leprosy control programme along with tuberculosis in Uganda, Burma and New Guinea. Protective effects varied from 20 to 80 percent for a limited period.
