The first issue of this book focuses on the prominent features of four serious and baffling congenital TORCH group of infections (toxoplasma, rubella, cytomegalovirus and herpes simplex virus only). It reviews basic microbiology and pathogenesis of TORCH syndrome, suggests specific diagnostic approaches in mother and foetus/neonate, and analyses available therapeutic options and strategies. This book was conceived because a need was felt to upgrade knowledge, clarify doubts and proffer the advances in perinatal medicine on this subject. The two main issues that confound the obstetricians and neonatologists are perinatal loss and congenital anomalies which is described in detail.
