Growth and development are essential components in the health of the child. Bearing this in mind, an adequate nutrition is of immense importance in children with renal disease especially with the altered physiology associated with uremia. It has been shown that maintaining an adequate nutrition in renal patients is essential to reduce the morbidity and mortality. The pediatrician and pediatric nephrologist with the help of the renal dietician play a vital role in the management of nutrition of renal patients. Assessment of nutritional status includes detection of clinical malnutrition, identify macro or micro nutrient deficiencies and assess the overall nutritional status of the individual. There is no single measurement to detect this and instead a group of indices, each representing a specific data category is measured individually and then collectively evaluated.
