Abstract

This chapter discusses computer applications in ENT, where various research data, patient records, equipment inventories, and bibliographic references can be stored in a computer. Computers can easily find out the electroacoustic characteristics of a hearing aid required depending upon the audiometric threshold data, and thus, computers minimise the subjective errors produced when technicians prescribe hearing aids. Computerised interviews are performed in which the general interview regarding the personal information can be recorded. A physician or surgeon can feed all the information he has about a patient and computers correlate this information and can give various differential diagnosis. Thus computers have a wide range of applications in medical field starting from patient’s history to management. Computers in health care systems are used in PCMS (patient care management system) and PCA (patient care administration) besides being used in medical records and equipment record update.
