Abstract

This chapter discusses medicolegal aspects in relation to ENT, where ENT doctor has to treat his patients with utmost care knowing fully well the risk factors and the consequences thereof. While giving information, nothing should be exaggerated nor minimised but exact reality should be revealed. If the patient is minor or incapable of understanding, the consent of legal guardian should be obtained. While performing research on volunteers, guidelines of ICMR should be followed. Records of the indoor patients should be kept at least for three years. External injuries of pinna causing wounds or hematoma formation and bleeding without loss of part of the ear will be called simple injury. Permanent privation of hearing of either ear or disfigurement of face or injury endangers life. It is the duty of the complainant to prove medical negligence; and if a doctor puts forward any point in his defence, then it is his duty to prove it.
