Practical Cardiotocography

This book discusses practical cardiotocography (CTG) technology. The three major refinements that are now part of CTG technology include automatic computer analysis of tracing, incorporation of ST analyser (STAN) software, and vibroacoustic stimulation test. The topics discussed include pioneers of cardiotocography, scope of use of cardiotocography, the need for cardiotocographic monitoring, methods used for picking up fetal heart activity, and methods of picking up uterine activity-tocography. Problems in interpretation of CTG and solution, applied cardiotocography-antenatal, uterine activity-normal and abnormal, applied cardiotocography-intranatal, and fetal sleep, rest, activity and CTG, are also discussed. The book concludes with chapters such as monitoring twins by CTG, CTG through telemetry, clinical considerations in interpretation, abnormal trace and its management, medico-legal consideration of CTG, drawbacks and deficiencies of CTG Monitoring, and place of CTG today.
