Emergency Medicine

by Arjun Mehta

Emergency medicine is the medical specialty involving care for undifferentiated and unscheduled patients with illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. There are many books on clinical medicine and emergency medicine, but being too big to put in the coat pocket, they are either in the library or in the office and never at the bedside when it’s most needed. This book “Emergency Medicine” has been written with this ideal in mind. It produces a clear, concise and comprehensive pocket text of acute medicine. This book summarises essential elements of care of the commonly encountered medical emergencies. Neurological emergencies, renal, metabolic and endocrine emergencies, rheumatological emergencies, acute cardiology, gastrointestinal emergencies, respiratory emergencies, and drug overdose are the topics which are discussed briefly throughout this book. The aim of this book is to give confidence in differential diagnosis and management of acute medical problems and is intended to complement the standard textbooks in clinical medicine. It is suitable for medical students, and practising doctors who are likely to encounter these clinical problems.
