The chapter deals with gastrointestinal emergencies. Acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage, lower gastrointestinal bleeding, acute or chronic liver failure and acute pancreatitis are different gastrointestinal emergencies. The acute upper gastrointestinal haemorrhage covers the risk of re-bleeding after endoscopy, risk of re-bleeding and mortality, and high-risk patient for emergency endoscopy. The acute or chronic liver failure discusses the fulminant hepatic failure, chronic hepatic failure and tense ascites.
