The speciality of dermatology has advanced to such an extent that now most of the skin diseases can be cured if the patient receives proper treatment, and even the scars left by the disease can be minimized or eliminated with appropriate cosmetological/surgical procedures. However, a proper diagnosis and good planning for the treatment is very essential. Dermatology is essentially a science of visual images. Once a dermatology student sees the lesions of a disease in a patient, it becomes far easier for him to recognize the disease when he sees the next patient with the same disease. This book therefore excels in providing a large number of high quality and large sized photographs to create realistic images of the lesions. Most of the photographs are in color to depict the actual colors of the lesions, and the printing is marvelous. It feels as if you are seeing the actual patient. The narrative includes a brief description of the clinical features adequately supported by the good quality photographs depicting all the manifestations and variations in the clinical features of the disease. It also describes the tests required for confirming the diagnosis (whenever necessary) and the guidelines for proper management of the disease. This book however, limits itself to only the common diseases which account for almost 80% of the skin patients. Thus general practitioners interested in dermatology and the students who are undergoing training or have missed adequate training during their undergraduate courses are expected to benefit. The diseases have been classified according to the aetiological mechanisms.
