Candidiasis is another fungal infection which can involve the skin and/or the mucosal areas. Its manifestations include oral candidiasis (thrush), vulvo-vaginal candidiasis and perianal and genital candidiasis depending upon whether the organism involves the mouth, vagina, anus or the male genitals. The cutaneous manifestations include intertriginous candidiasis involving the groins, axillary folds, angles of the mouth, inframammary areas in the females, and interdigital spaces of the toes and fingers. Chronic paronychia commonly seen in the diabetics and generalized cutaneous candidiasis (especially in the immune-deficient people) are the other manifestations. The predisposing factors, the methods of diagnosis and management are discussed.
