The book is very comprehensive, simple and is neatly written. A good book is one which apart from evincing interest in the readers about the subject, makes them desirous to know more and more about it. The book has been made in multicolour, thoroughly updated, inserted about 1,100 mind-boggling colour diagrams, number of colour clinical photographs wherever required, and about 50 new X-rays have been added. Eight new chapters have been added and the notable ones among them are: (i) Soft tissue injuries, (ii) Fractures in special situations, (iii) Hand injuries, (iv) Injuries to the foot, (v) Approach to orthopaedic disorders, (vi) Deformities and their management, (vii) Treatment of orthopaedic disorders, (viii) Sports injuries. Even the Appendices have been thoroughly revised. Due to the sheer number of diagrams the book has slightly overgrown its size. However, it is an apparent bulk and not the real bulk as diagrams add to the quality of the book. This book has been widely appreciated for columns like quick facts, vital facts, flow charts, points to ponder, mnemonics, etc. and many students have told me that they just read these just before the exams. These columns give them the gist of the entire chapters in a jiffy and it is a great boon to them. Lots of interesting captions like ‘Did you know’?, ‘myths’, etc. have been incorporated, wherever required apart from the usual attractions of the second edition. A new column, ‘What is new?’, has been added.
