This chapter focuses on the special gonioscopy techniques. Manipulative gonioscopy, indentation gonioscopy and biometric gonioscopy are the three different techniques of special gonioscopy techniques. Manipulation is of value in studying angle anatomy in narrow iridocorneal angles. This can be achieved in Goldmann type lenses by simply asking the patient to look in the direction of the mirror or moving the mirror towards the angle being viewed. The second technique of indentation gonioscopy involves the use of a Zeiss type corneal indirect gonioscope to indent the cornea and thereby open up the angle, in order to differentiate between appositional or synechial closure. Biometric gonioscopy is a new method for objective measurement of the anterior chamber angle proposed by Congdon et al. In this method gonioscopic measurements are performed with the help of a special reticule. This method correlates well with other measures of the anterior chamber angle like conventional gonioscopy and Scheimpflug photography, shows a much higher degree of interobserver reliability than conventional gonioscopy and can be readily learned and performed by an inexperienced observer. Eight well-colored figures related to the special gonioscopy techniques are also presented in this chapter.
