Abstract

Iron is stored in the bone marrow in the form of Haemosiderin which can be demonstrated as dark blue dots by Prussian Blue stain which is also known as Perl’s reaction. The quantity of iron in the bone marrow is a significant sign of iron stores in the body. The demonstration of iron by Prussian blue stain is a very significant diagnostic procedure in cases of Iron Deficiency Anaemia and Sideroblastic Anaemia. The simple procedure of Prussian blue is described in this chapter. The staining kit can easily be obtained from the market.
