Renal dysfunction can seriously affect perioperative risk and cause various problems in anaesthetic management. Patients with severe renal disease requires careful preoperative evaluation regarding existing renal function, assessment of intravascular volume, electrolyte status and the effects of renal failure on other organ systems. This chapter reviews the pathophysiology of renal diseases, effects of anaesthesia on renal function, anaesthetic management in patients with renal failure.
