Abstract

Anaesthetic management for patients undergoing eye surgery requires a clear understanding of some unique factors particularly those influencing intraocular pressure, the risk of oculocardiac reflex and possibility of adverse drug effects administered in perioperative period. The chapter focuses on the physiology of intraocular pressure, oculocardiac reflex and common drug interactions. It also reviews the anaesthetic management for some common ophthalmic procedures. Retrobulbar block and peribulbar block are discussed.
