Kidney provides a major role to control various homeostatic functions of the body including excretion of metabolic waste products while ECF volume and composition is kept constant. Renal dysfunction is mostly due to disease, use of nephrotoxic agents and/or prolonged reduction in renal oxygen delivery. Renal dysfunction can adversely affect the surgical and anaesthetic management and thus needs preoperative evaluation and perioperative proper care.
