Evisceration is a feared complication with 35% mortality. Predisposing factors to this rare event are enumerated. The sequence of events, starting from day 5–14 after surgery, is discussed. Methods of surgical correction are described. Four case histories of evisceration, after laparoscopic ligation, minilaparotomy and 2 cases of elderly women presenting with vaginal evisceration many years after vaginal hysterectomy are described. All cases were repaired abdominally.
