Sexual Reproductive Health of Young People (10-24 Years)

by A Parthasarathy, MKC Nair

The book “Sexual Reproductive Health of Young People (10–24 Years)” provides glimpses of some of the important directions of sexual problems and reproductive health of young peoples. The layout of the book is simple and attracts, text is simple language understood by one and all. Dividing the book into three sections—Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (10-19 Years), Pre-marital Counseling for Youth (15-24 Years), and Sexual Reproductive Health of Newly Married Couples is quite appropriate, as the same topic is presented differently and appropriate for the age. The book consists of twenty eight chapters, well arranged in a coherent manner. The contents of the book cover all types of sexual problems and every aspect of reproductive health of young peoples. Young people and adults experience a great deal of anxiety emerging out of a lack of knowledge of sex and from myths and misconceptions about sexuality. Later when they become adults and begin family life, all these may get in the way of their healthy sexuality and create lot of problems in family life. Here comes the importance of imparting ‘Pre-marital Counseling’ to the young people with a view to create awareness on all aspects of family life and thus developing a positive attitude towards sexuality. The same could be augmented through ‘Counseling for Newly Married Couples’ providing an avenue for the couple to understand each other better. This book would be of immense help for all of us involved in RCH II and National Rural Health Mission.
