Abstract

To learn and understand the epidemiology, diagnostic modalities and treatment issue regarding skeletal tuberculosis. Osteoarticular tuberculosis is result of hematogenous dissemination from primary infected focus, which may be active or quiescent, apparent or latent, in the lungs, lymph glands or other viscera. Bone and joints are next common sites of tuberculus infection after tuberculosis of lugs and lymph nodes. Multidrug antitubercular therapy is still the mainstay of treatment for osteoarticular tuberculosis. Surgical measures are required when patient is not respond to chemotherapy alone. Complete recovery and rehabilitation in patients of osteoarticular tuberculosis take a long time -18 to 24 months. Elucidated with clinical case reports.
