Abstract

To learn and understand the role of corticosteroid in management of tuberculosis. Various pharmacological preparation are available for use. Commonly used in general practice are: hydrocortisone, methylprednisolone and dexamethosone, and beta- methasone in oral form. Recently, another agent, i.e. deflazacort has been made available in India. Some of the common indication of steroids are: seriously ill toxaemic patient of miliary TB, generalised disseminated TB, meningeal TB, saviour drug hypersensitivity, paradoxical reactions, massive pericardial and plural effusion, endbronchial TB and TB lyringits or lymph nodes Tb producing pressure symptoms. Elucidated with clinical case reports.
