Numerous studies have demonstrated that adherence to medical therapy is strongly correlated with symptoms. During of therapy has also been showered to have an effect on patient adherence. A not insignificant motive behind developing short course regimens was the realisation that long term therapy (18-24 months) was difficult to administer with any degree of confidence in patient adherence to the regimen. The result of Chennai proved that intermittent therapy is effective unsuccessful for the ambulatory treatment of tuberculosis patients. No intermittent regimen is successful without DOTS.
