Review of Fixed Partial Dentures

by M Lovely

Review of Fixed Partial Dentures is the third book in the examination review series in Prosthodontics being brought out as study aids for the undergraduate dental students appearing for the BDS university examinations. It is meant as a continuation of the first two books—Review of Complete Dentures and Review of Removable Partial Dentures—which were published earlier. The world of fixed partial dentures underwent a revolution recently with the advent of implant dentistry, newer techniques and materials used. Yet many of the questions still asked for university examinations are from outdated concepts like tenso-frictional resistance, Davis crown etc. It is very difficult for the students to find answers for these questions from recent textbooks. This book includes answers to the oldest and latest questions that could be asked in the final university question paper. It is not, however, a replacement for textbooks and students are expected to have gone through the textbooks during their study period. This book will help them to grasp the concepts in this review better. A student who goes through this book without having grasped the basics by reading the standard textbooks will probably find himself overwhelmed. Such a student will also find it difficult to reproduce the facts in this book in a systematic manner in the examination. Even though this book is meant for the undergraduate students, this book include not just the essentials but also a little more so that the postgraduate students, practicing Prosthodontists and dental practitioners, in general, will also find material of interest.
