This chapter defines microcirculation and outlines the characteristics of the vessels that form part of microcirculation namely—the arterioles, the meta-arterioles and the capillaries. The operation of four primary Starling forces responsible for filtration and diffusion of fluid across the capillary membrane into the interstitium, that maintains Starling equilibrium at the capillary membrane are outlined.
