Carcinoid tumors are indolent tumors arising from neuroendocrine cells and cytochemical quite similar to tumors like phaeochromocytoma, medullary thyroid cancer and endocrine tumors of pancreas. Neuroendocrine cells being ubiquitous, these tumors hence can be encountered anywhere in the body, but are commonly found in following sites in decreasing order of frequency, appendix, small intestine (predominantly ileum), rectum and bronchus.
