Abstract

Carcinoma ovary is a malignancy, which yields well to cytoreduction unlike other cancers where a wide resection margin is necessary to extirpate the disease. It encompasses epithelial carcinoma of ovary, germ cell and stromal cell tumors. In addition fallopian tube carcinoma and extra-peritoneal carcinomatosis also behave in a similar manner as far as tumor biology and response to management is concerned. Chemotherapy has a major role to play in the treatment of epithelial and germ cell tumors of the ovary. Predominantly a disease of post-menopausal female’s epithelial carcinomas can occur in young women also. Around 190,000 cases are diagnosed annually with a 5 year survival figures of 40%.
