Abstract

Dry eye and OSD have assumed greater importance. To understand dry eye, knowledge of tear film is important. There are many classifications for dry eye. One should know the basic etiological factor which leads onto dry eye. This chapter mentions all the above and then the causes of dryness as per the layer of tear film that is mainly involved. Sjogren’s is discussed in detail. Clinical features of dry eye are mentioned followed by all the tests—vital dye tests, laboratory tests and histological evaluation. Management is classified into medical and surgical ones and the therapy is grouped according to the etiology. Differential diagnosis is mentioned next. Canalicular problem is discussed separately at the end.
