Abstract

Many metabolic disorders result in corneal deposits and changes. Nucleotide metabolism, exemplified by gout, results in inflammation of anterior segment. Protein metabolism derangement—both essential and non essential amino acids—is equally important. Cystine metabolic disorder results in both ocular and systemic problems. Of no less important are those due to phenylalanine metabolism. Derangement of Amyloid, another member of protein group, and that of heme have important implication for the cornea. No less important is the deposit one sees in the cornea due to carbohydrate metabolism problem. Lesions due to lipid and metals metabolism are met with in cornea. These conditions are discussed in this chapter.
