Abstract

Laparoscopic appendicectomy was first performed in Kiel by Kurt Semm in 1980. The indications for laparoscopic appendicectomy should be the same as that of open appendicectomy port positions. The initial 10 mm port is made at the umbilicus and the accessory ports are then made under direct vision. The pneumoperitoneum is done through umbilicus. The essential steps include identification of caecum, displaying appendix, lysis of mesoappendix, amputation of appendix and removal.
