Abstract

Nephrectomy is indicated for non-functioning kidney due to hydronephrosis pyonephrosis, renal tuberculosis, and malignant tumors of kidney, trauma causing severe laceration or vascular injury and for donor’s kidney during transplantation. Simple nephrectomy is carried out by posterolateral approach. The renal pedicle is individually securely ligated and divided. Radical nephrectomy can be done by standard loin approach but a transabdominal approach is considered better.
