Abstract

Lasik has become the most popular ophthalmic surgical procedure, followed by cataract surgery in our country; this means that if we want to keep this procedure going among our patients as good as today, we have to pay special attention in their preoperative evaluation and expectations. As routine we always perform Orbscan II quad map topography, besides a previous complete refractive and ophthalmologic examination slit-lamp examination, break up time evaluation, and indirect central and peripheral retinal examination. If we have enough convincing information to propose as first option, a LASIK treatment, we inform our patient of the possible risks and the advantages of the procedure; in order to improve safety and efficacy in our procedures we always perform a second evaluation of our patients the same day before surgery. The first postoperative day is evaluated by UCVA and flap/interface oriented slit-lamp examination, if everything is ok, we ask our patient to come back in 2–4 weeks, obviously explaining what will be the normal and abnormal symptoms of visual recover.
