Total knee and hip replacement surgeries are special operations which require highest order of aseptic precaution, surgical skill and good team with almost fixed preoperative, perioperative and postoperative techniques and protocols with some modifications according to the individual case. This book has been written in 2008 after gaining the experience in more than 800 cases of total knee and hip replacement surgeries with successful outcome. We have used the cruciate substituting posterior stabilized PFC sigma fixed bearing knee implants and RPF (Rotating Platform High Flexed) design for TKR. C-stem for cemented THR, Summit tapered hip system and Proxima hip for uncemented THR have been used. Whatever the implants used the basic principle remains the same. In this book the important points have been explained and demonstrated by the original coloured photographs which will be helpful for the beginners. It is advisable to have an adequate exposure of these surgeries before starting independently. Whenever planned for arthrodesis of the knee following infected TKR, the technique has been described with Limb Reconstruction System. A patient’s guide to arthritis and joint replacement has been added. Technique of high tibial osteotomy by hemicallotasis using dynamic axial fixator for medial compartment osteoarthritis of knee has been used in place of unicondylar knee replacement surgery with excellent result. Operating video of TKR and THR with audio-visual presentation for education to arthritis patients have been given.
