Atlas of Laparoscopic Surgery

by Theodore N Pappas, Edward G Chekan, Steve Eubanks, Ashok Mittal

Laparoscopic surgery continues to progress at a remarkable pace. Since then the surgeon and instrument manufacturers have left no stone unturned to ensure that almost all abdominal surgeries be possible laparoscopically. The second edition at the time of publication was by the pioneering masters in the field. Their precise and clear exposition of the principles of the technique cannot be bettered and has thus been left almost untouched. The introduction of new energy sources—argon beam, laser, ultrasound, ligasur, etc. have made surgery more rapid and more safe for the patient, and the surgeons have responded by performing more complex feats. Everyday a new procedure is being attempted and standardized. At present minimal invasive surgery has become a part of the medical curriculum and the surgical residents acquire the skills during their training period. This edition is addressed to the trainee in laparoscopic surgery so a chapter on pre- and post-operative care is included. A small note on Robotics at the end would make him aware of where the future of this technology lies. It is intended that the reader of this atlas will be fully prepared to provide the patient with a safe and effective endosurgical operation.
