Abstract

Patch test denotes a mini-reproduction of allergic contact dermatitis in clinical settings. This test is indicated in allergic contact dermatitis syndrome as well as atopic dermatitis, nummular dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, stasis dermatitis and pompholyx. Proper selection of patients, following conventional method of test, using standard battery of allergens and careful interpretation of results remain the cornerstone of patch test. Different forms of patch testing like closed, semi-open or open testing are to be applied as per pattern of allergy and nature of allergens.
