Ultrasonography is a non-invasive, patient friendly, cost- effective and office based option in the management of infertile patients. It plays an important part in the evaluation, treatment and follow-up of patients with infertility. Ultrasound imaging of pelvic pathology identifies lesions that impair fertilization or implantation and excludes or confirms lesions that cause recurrent pregnancy loss. It can also help in prediction of outcomes in ART by the antral follicle count. Ultrasound markers of endometrial receptivity include endometrial thickness, volume, sub-endometrial peristalsis and vascularization. Also, spectral analysis of blood flow in uterine artery and perifollicular vascularization can be studied. Right from ovulation monitoring to interventional procedures like oocyte recovery and embryo transfer we depend on ultrasonography in infertility for better results.
