Abstract

Care of HIV-infected pregnant women require involvement of both obstetrician and HIV specialist. All routine measures should be ensured to improve maternal health. Standard antenatal assessment as done for pregnant women should be carried out. In addition her HIV disease status should be evaluated by CD4 counts. A baseline HIV RNA viral load should be done to assess the risk of disease progression and second HIV RNA viral load should be carried at 38 weeks to decide about the mode of delivery.
