Exercise not only adds years to the life, But also adds life to the years! Exercise prescription is a process whereby a person’s physical activity regimen is formulated in a systematic and individualized manner, taking into account present fitness status and goal of training. Present chapter gives emphasis on the point that Exercise prescription is formulated in such a way that it focuses on specific outcomes but at the same time does not ignore all-round health related benefits. While designing the workouts, following principles of exercise prescription are followed: Warm up, Principle of total body involvement, Principle of progression, Principle of tolerance and Cooling down. In the ZOOM IN section you find a worthy caution \"Intense is not necessarily better\". The MYTH section dispels three illogical beliefs viz. \"No pain no gain\", \"As soon as you start exercising, your weight starts decreasing progressively.\" and \"Weight training is contraindicated in women, as they would develop bulky muscles.\" This is followed by specimen Exercise prescriptions. Care is taken that Exercise prescriptions are formulated for subjects having different age groups and different goals for training. To give examples: Mr. Deepak is a 23 years old healthy, untrained college student; Mrs. Patil is a 40 years old obese lady; Mr. Singh is a 35 years old executive, Mr. Patel is a 45 year old businessman. He is a newly diagnosed, uncomplicated type 2 diabetes patient. Each Exercise prescription is accompanied by Exercise guide pyramid which in a visual form depicts the major components of the Exercise programme making it easy to understand and assimilate the information.
