Abstract

It is very difficult to actually measure the \'fuel\' content of the muscle. Hence various Field tests are devised to evaluate efficacy of different energy system. In this chapter, Field tests described to evaluate efficacy of immediate energy system are: 1. Margaria Kalamen Test, 2. Jumping tests: • Jump and reach test • Standing broad jump, and 3. Test on bicycle ergometer: Quebec 10-second leg cycling power test. You will also find a reference for Field tests to evaluate short-term energy system: 1. Katch test: It is a bicycle ergometer test and 2. Wingate test: It is a modification of Katch test. Evaluation of long-term energy system is done by estimation of VO2 max. You will find details with Zoom In on \"VO2max\". Values of VO2max for adult males and females are also enumerated. In the later part of the chapter Tests to measure VO2 max viz. Treadmill tests, Bicycle ergometer tests, Step tests and Field tests are described. In WHY BOX you will find answer to the question \"Why VO2 max in women is less by about 15 to 30% than that of men with the same age and training status?\" In short this chapter is indispensable for those who wish to assess efficacy of different energy systems by using field tests.
