Abstract

Clinical pharmacology is study of drugs in clinical material, i.e. human beings. Clinical pharmacology is also the science of prescribing the correct drug at the correct dose at the right price to the right patient, i.e. rational drug utilisation. It includes clinical trials of drugs, postmarketing surveillance, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, toxicity, drug interactions, etc. The focus of pharmacology teaching has shifted to more on clinical pharmacology. With clinical pharmacology, a student is expected to know the appropriate indication, dose, route of administration, frequency adverse effects, contraindications, potential drug interactions, how to reported adverse effects and above all explain these salient features to patient.
