Abstract

Scrapings from involved ocular site complemented with the appropriate staining method can offer the ophthalmologist definitive information concerning the identity of the invading organism. Principle of staining, reagents preparation and staining procedures are explained in detail for KOH, grams stain, giemsa stain, Grocott-Gomori Methenamine Silver Staining methods. Microscopic pictures of fungal filaments in KOH wet mount will aid easy identification and also differentiate from Nocardial filaments and yeast cells. Florescent microscopic methods (Calcofluor White staining, KOH-Calcofluor White Procedure) also explained in detailed with color microscopic pictures with descriptive text.
