Current Concepts in Contraception and Women’s Health

The book has been divided into four sections. The first section deals with the demographic patterns in India and the world related to family welfare, and have been covered in detail by the authors. The second section deals with contraception. There has been a sea change in the methodologies adopted for prevention of the unwanted births. The chapters included in this section systematically describe the basic and current practices in intrauterine contraception device, combined oral contraceptives, progesterone only pill, injectables, implants, emergency contraception, permanent methods in male and female including no scalpel vasectomy, and recent advances. In addition, WHO medical eligibility criteria have been described in Appendix I for every method at the end of the book. The third section focuses on current health issues and national programs for women. The chapters on national rural health mission, maternal health and women empowerment, reproductive and child health, adolescent health, bone health in women are absolutely relevant for the postgraduate students desirous of knowing current national programs and issues. The guidelines regarding medical termination of pregnancy, sterilization, reproductive tract infections, prevention of parent-to-child transmission, prenatal diagnostic techniques act and assisted reproductive technology are a must for every gynecologist’s armour. The fourth section has a chapter on biostatistics that describes basics of medical statistics applicable to any research methodology. It will be immensely useful to everyone for the analysis of the scientific data.
