Pregnancy is characterized by presence of certain nutrition related problems, which are specific to pregnancy. These include some common problems like morning sickness, constipation, etc. Management of these problems through dietary interventions would be discussed in this chapter. By making simple dietary interventions, the obstetrician can help the pregnant women obtain relief from common pregnancy related nutritional problems like morning sickness, constipation, etc. These commonly encountered problems, though are not associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes (exception hyperemesis gravidarum), they can be a cause of significant distress and depression to the patient. Thus by alleviating these problems the clinician can help the woman overcome significant amount of stress and discomfort.
