Memory plays a very important role in our learning and psychological growth. In this unit consideration is given on how information is stored and retrieved. The different components of memory like registration, retention, recall and recognition have been detailed in this unit. Short notes have been given on memory processes, types, factors influencing memory. Failure to recall is explained under following headings. Causes of forgetting, theories of forgetting and types of forgetting. Finally the practical means of increasing memory capacity has been discussed in the form of tips to improve memory retention. Special emphasis has been given on nursing interventions for impaired memory.
