Abstract

Psychology deals with not only what people do but also why they do so. Why they do and how they behave in a particular fashion at a particular moment can be understood in terms of motivation. This unit begins with focus on how needs; drives, incentives and motives jointly affect behavior. This unit reviews on classification of motives, methods of measuring and theories of motivation. This unit also considers how a nurse can help the patient by understanding his motives. While every action arises in response to a need the blocking of activity directed towards a goal results in frustration. Conflict results from a tension between opposed and contradictory wishes. This unit emphasizes on external and internal factors that cause frustration, how an individual reacts to frustration, various types of conflicts and how to cope with frustration and conflict.
