Abstract

Emotions are some sort of feelings or affective experiences which are characterized by some physiological changes that generally lead them to perform some or the other type of behavioral acts. This unit considers relationship between motivation and emotions and the functions that emotions play in people’s life. It also discusses a number of theories which explain as to how people understand which emotion they are experiencing at a given moment. Special emphasis has been given on why people react differently to illness, the emotional reactions of severe illness, and nursing interventions useful to deal with such emotional reactions. This unit ends with models of stress, physiology of stress and adaptation, symptoms of stress, stress management strategies and psychosomatic disorders and role of a nurse.
