Abstract

The chapter starts by defining the composition of urine and its physiochemical characteristics in sufficient detail. Gross examination of urine—its color and appearance, reaction, pH, odor, specific gravity are presented nicely. Urinary volume—normal and abnormal is given as is its turbidity. Chemical examination of urine—various analyses usually tested for, their methods, normal and abnormal values are given in appropriate detail. The chapter ends by considering the microscopy of the urine and its sediment. Both normal and abnormal constituents are presented in text as well as pictorially. Automation in urinalysis is presented in requisite detail too.
