Abstract

In this chapter, the role of surgery in the diagnosis of TB, surgery for active pulmonary TB, preoperative preparation, indications and principles of surgical treatment of pleuropulmonary TB are covered. Further, surgery for the complications of TB, such as, bronchopleural fistula, empyema, hemoptysis, foci of residual disease, tracheal or bronchial stenosis, broncholiths and bronchiectasis, pulmonary mycetoma, cold abscess of the chest wall, surgical intervention in children with mediastinal lymph node TB, surgery for complications of previous surgery are presented. Indian experience in the surgical management of TB is also highlighted.
